Darren earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (1995) and a Master of Science degree in Water Resources Engineering (1998) from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Since completing his academic studies, he has acquired 27 years of professional experience in the field of water resources engineering.

Darren has developed a strong technical background in hydraulic and river engineering with an emphasis on management and leadership of hydraulic design projects, physical model studies, and numerical modelling applications. His capabilities and experience allows him to fit into various roles on projects and studies, which may include data collector, analyst, designer, technical reviewer, senior technical advisor, project manager, or project director. It is not uncommon for Darren to be assigned multiple roles and responsibilities on a project whether it is performed independently by SG1 or as part of a larger team with other firms or consultants.

Darren has proven himself to be a key contributor at all stages of a project, from design feasibility through to implementation. His practical and innovative approaches toward hydraulic design and analysis have proven invaluable to clients in terms of:

  • Optimizing system performance;

  • Providing long-term functionality of facilities;

  • Addressing safety and environmental concerns;

  • Obtaining regulatory approvals to construct and operate; and

  • Reducing construction costs and schedules.

Darren is a team player who thrives on working with his clients and other consultants to develop engineering solutions for water-related projects. His strong communication skills, both written and orally, have contributed significantly to his successes on projects where collaboration is important.

Support Services

Although SG1 is solely managed and operated, we have access to engineering and technical support staff that provide services related to engineering analysis, technical review, computer-aided drafting design, report preparation, data processing, and field data collection.

  • We utilize highly-skilled drafting technicians for developing CADD-based drawings, maps, and figures that are often used in performing hydraulic design and analysis tasks and for tendering and construction of our projects.

  • We have access to qualified hydrographic surveyors who utilize state-of-the-art survey technology to collect bathymetric and topographic data and aerial (drone) imagery within the study area. We are experienced with developing, coordinating, and managing field programs for all types of waterbodies.

  • We work closely with our subcontractors to ensure that the quality of the deliverables is exemplary and meets our high standards and expectations.
